José López Barneo (Torredonjimeno [Jaen], 1952, Spain) has many things to explain, because his work is very important. He is researching a current issue, at times controversial, generating debates not only in the scientific field but also in the social and political ones. He is working with stem cells.

Whatever his position is regarding the use of stem cells, López Barneo wants to know what he can do with them; in order to draw out their benefits.

After extensive training which has taken him from Seville, (graduating in medicine and getting a PhD in medicine and murgery at the University of Seville), passing through Paris and the United States (postdoctoral stays), the base of José López Barneo’s investigations is at the Research Service form the University Hospital Virgen del Rocío (Seville), where he is the manager. From there, he has centred himself on the study of embryonic stem cells for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like for example Parkinson.
